RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBS) — A 21-year-old Redondo Beach resident has been arrested after allegedly attempting to steal property believed to belong to deceased individuals at a mausoleum.
The incident, which was reported to deputies at the Lomita Sheriff’s Station, resulted in the arrest of James R. Haggstrom at around 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 19.
According to authorities, a witness reported seeing Haggstrom allegedly attempting to open a glass niche in the cemetery’s Pacifica North Court Mausoleum at Green Hills Memorial Park.
Upon arrival, deputies arrested Haggstrom, who they say was in possession of property believed to belong to the deceased.
A subsequent search of his home revealed other property believed to be stolen, a Nixle alert issued by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said.
Haggstrom is currently on probation for burglary. He has since been charged with two felony counts of burglary.
