Off-Road Racing Champion, 2 Others Die In Crash Of Small Plane Bound For Corona

CORONA (CBS) — A small plane -- going from Las Vegas and bound for Corona, California  -- declared an emergency and crashed this afternoon near Daggett.

The pilot and two passengers were all reportedly killed in the crash.

(UPDATE: 11:45 p.m.): It was announced late Sunday that off-road racing champion Rick Huseman and his brother, Jeff, were the two passengers on the plane. The pilot was not named pending notification of his next of kin. Huseman was well-known in racing circles. Last year he was received the prestigious  "Driver of the Year" award.

The crash, initially believed to possibly be a military plane, crashed 5 miles NE of Daggett.

The California Highway Patrol there were only the two passengers and the pilot on board the Beech 33 Bonanza.

Authorities say there is an active investigation underway by the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash.
