The accident occurred when the woman rolled over her vehicle and crashed into a parked car on Whitnall Street around 2 a.m. early Wednesday morning.

Police said the woman then fled the scene and left her daughter behind while she hid in some nearby bushes.

But it wasn't until after the 4-year-old girl was questioned while receiving treatment for injuries at St. Joseph's Hospital that LAPD Officer Oswaldo Pedamonte said she started talking.

"She said that she might have had a two-month-old brother inside the vehicle," said Pedamonte.

The mother was found after police searched the area, but there was no infant was located.

Officers then went to her apartment, forced the door open and found a 1-year-old girl and a 2-month-old boy inside with no adults present.

All three children were taken to the police station and are now under custody of protective services.

The mother is facing felony charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment, Pedamonte said.
