LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A San Fernando Valley mom is behind bars Wednesday after an alleged drunk driving accident from which she reportedly fled, leaving her 4-year-old daughter in the car.

KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports police said a later search of the woman’s apartment in North Hollywood revealed even more troubling details.

The accident occurred when the woman rolled over her vehicle and crashed into a parked car on Whitnall Street around 2 a.m. early Wednesday morning.

Police said the woman then fled the scene and left her daughter behind while she hid in some nearby bushes.

But it wasn’t until after the 4-year-old girl was questioned while receiving treatment for injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital that LAPD Officer Oswaldo Pedamonte said she started talking.

“She said that she might have had a two-month-old brother inside the vehicle,” said Pedamonte.

The mother was found after police searched the area, but there was no infant was located.

Officers then went to her apartment, forced the door open and found a 1-year-old girl and a 2-month-old boy inside with no adults present.

All three children were taken to the police station and are now under custody of protective services.

The mother is facing felony charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment, Pedamonte said.

the woman’s actions certainly show no thinking, stupidity, and cowardice on her part however, one’s culture doesn’t dictate whether a person will be a nurturing/ good, or irresponsible/poor parent.

Wow . first off why did she have a 4 year old out in the streets at 2 am with a 1 year old and 2 month old at home alone .. Woman make me sick as a mom i would never think of having my kids home alone yet alone drinking while am suppose to be guarding my child.

STOP HAVING KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTH is wrong with you? This is the second story I’ve read in as many days where the drunk mother injured/almost killed her kids while driving a vehicle. What a disgusting excuse for a mother/human being!!! So tired of the kids suffering because the parents are complete and total incompetent, neglectful, abusive morons!!! Where’s the father you ask? HA, what a joke. Obviously nowhere to be found or there are several of them who could care less that their children are in the care of (and I use the term “in the care of” loosely) this crazy drunk.

She doesn’t know the difference between playing and taking it seriously. As older parents, we have always tried to teach abstinance, but today is so different. Not better, just different. Low morals, no self esteem. Parents should be teaching safe sex with no options of not being safe. All girls should be given a birth control pill, just like a vitamin pill. At least until guys have a pill. No one wants to talk to their own children and teach them about sex. I had a girlfriend that asked me after 20 years of marriage, who gave your boys “The Talk”?? I could hardly keep from laughing. There is not just a talk, one talk!!! It starts when they start asking questions and it continues for ever. Parents these days still want to party and not be responsible. They needed to just have fun, not start a family. Another gal I know just told every thing she could think of about sex, the first time her daughter asked her a question, and was very pleased with herself that her daughter Knew It All! Please teach them!! And NOT like that gal did. That is just lazy!!!
