LA Area Traffic Ranked 17th Worst In The Nation

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Southland traffic can be aggravating when you’re stuck on the freeway, but a new survey says it’s not so bad.

The American Community Survey found LA-Orange county have the 17th worst traffic among metropolitan areas.

The average commute to work takes about 28 minutes. That’s only 3 minutes longer than the national average.

The worst commute is in the New York-New Jersey area, with 34 minutes. Washington, DC is second.

Los Angeles ranked lower this year, because for the first time, the survey split it from the inland empire.

Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario ranks 8th worst in the U.S.

They obviously did not survey anyone who drives on the 405 at 730am! It used to take me 25 minutes to go 4 miles and now 35 minutes to go 10 miles.

Oh come on. That story was useless. Just because average commute time is less doesn’t reflect the actual traffic problem. People commute shorter or longer periods depending on a whole host of reasons (like housing prices). Come up with a more objective set of measurements and write a useful story. I agree with KVRS, I commute 25 miles from Santa Clarita to UCLA on the 405/5 daily in a commuter bus and it’s 45 minutes in the am at 6:30 and 1hr in the afternoon at 4:45p

Too bad those 28 minutes are spent cruising down a 2 mile stretch of the 405 at a brisk 3 MPH. So I guess that spending 28 minutes on a 2 mile drive is not much worse than spending 25 to go 15 miles.
