Torrance Family's 'Suspicion' Led To Arrest Of Man For Murder Of 100-Year-Old In Fresno

FRESNO (AP) — Authorities are releasing more information about the suspect accused of killing a 100-year-old Fresno County man.

Sanger police say David Anthony Romero was arrested after family members called police in Torrance and said they had "suspicions" that he might have been involved in a murder.

The Fresno Bee reports  that the 47-year-old Romero was arrested in Southern California on Aug. 24, a little more than two weeks after Joseph Fischer was attacked in his apartment at a senior living center.

Fischer was hospitalized with broken ribs, a punctured lung and multiple cuts and bruises after the Aug. 8 attack. He died in a hospital three days later.

Sanger police Chief Tom Klose describes Romero as a "transient" with no known ties to Sanger, but has acquaintances in nearby Fresno.

Romero is being held on $1 million bail after pleading not guilty to murder and other charges.
