LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles councilman has introduced a motion asking for a report on steps being taken to make sure that the city’s convention center doesn’t lose business due to concerns over the construction of a proposed NFL stadium nearby.
Councilman Paul Krekorian filed his motion Wednesday, about two weeks after a medical organization said that it would not hold its February 2014 convention in LA due to concerns about Anschutz Entertainment Group’s stadium proposal.
The plan involves demolishing and relocating a convention center building to make space for the stadium.
Krekorian also asked city staffers to report on what legal recourse the city has to recoup its losses if any cancellations do occur and whether the existing hall might be demolished before a replacement is built.
