NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — Texas Governor Rick Perry, running as a GOP presidential hopeful, will conduct a public event next week in Corona Del Mar.

Perry was already scheduled for a fundraiser at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach on September 8 when some Orange County Republican activists asked his campaign if he would interested in holding a more public and open forum, according to Scott Baugh, chairman of the Orange County Republican Party.

The open event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on September 8 at Roger’s Gardens. That venue was picked because it has space for about 500 people and is near the Island Hotel.

Tickets are free and are going fast, according to Baugh. For tickets call (714) 453-0900.

“I particularly admire when a candidate will come out and meet with activists, and not just the donors,” Baugh said. “We’d like every candidate to come through and meet our activists.”
