5 Arrested For Allegedly Making Phony Driver’s Licenses

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Five people, including two former employees of the California Department of Motor Vehicles, were arrested Wednesday for allegedly making and distributing fake driver’s licenses.

According to officials, arrests were made in Venice, Monrovia, West Hollywood, San Marino and Pacific Palisades. Police also seized printers, computer equipment and evidence of a counterfeit operation that was being investigated for almost eight months.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of fraudulently producing driver’s licenses and identification cards — Peter Scott Singer, 26, of Monrovia; Todd Terrazas, 24, of West Hollywood; and Lawrence Benjamin Goldstein, 22, of Los Angeles.

Each of the men is being held on $100,000 bail.

They face up to three years in prison if convicted.

In a separate investigation, officials from the DMV’s Internal Affairs division apprehended former DMV employees Carlos Ku, 28, of Los Angeles and Alejandro Rubalcava, 31, of Bellflower, who are suspected of unlawfully processing and selling unauthorized driver’s licenses.

Rubalcalva worked in the Bellflower office for four years, Ku worked in the Santa Monica field office for six years, according to officials.

“The practice of using fake IDs is constantly evolving and getting more sophisticated,” Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck said.

“From a homeland security perspective, this is a threat not only to public safety, but national security. The illegal operation we shut down was putting dangerous drivers on the road and endangering the public.”

mostly illegals getting this fake Ids. heck! what even happen to the new California DL/ID this year? they redesigned it and still bad people copying it and replicating it. I renewed my DL and waited for 5 freakin months and DMV’s reason was it was being redesigned and now Counterfeiters can replicate it just like that?!

    • Astonished

My bet is they were copying the old style. There are still a whole state’s worth of drivers who have not received the new version yet. After all, how would a police officer kinow if your supposed to have the new one yet or not?

  • Mel Gibson

the best Id’s are one’s you can buy that are legal from someone who is Similar to your Characteristics and then Duplicate it.
Of course one from the DMV is really the best.
    I paid $5,000.00 for mine

    • Astonished

$5,000! Man did you get swindled! Go to any intersection on Alvarado and you’ll get a whole set for under $100.00.

Do you pay top dollar for your counterfeit jeans too?

  • swhitS

Go to Alvarado and Olympic they are there all the time selling SS, drivers and Green Cards for around $25 – 50.
    Cops do nothing.

  • P

    Need to act
    Go after Employers who hire
and landlords who rent to illegals

most of the people that hire illegals are white’s!!!! they are the ones that are fu#king all citizens!!!!

      • sillly liberals.

What does that have to do with anything??? He said, go after those who hire and/or rent to illegals. That means white, black, brown, whatever. Genius.

Where did Justin Beiber get his?

It’s so funny to always see how all the uneducated people here jump at any opportunity to blame immigrants (legal or illegal) for for anything they can.

    • Really

Well, they are responsible for about 70% of fatal hit-and-runs and draining California for over billions of dollars in free services. I can’t speak for the rest of the country, but I can tell you WHO the problem is in this state.

My statement has nothing to with education because I have a bachelors and a degree in the recording arts. It’s just the facts.

  • American 1776

What I wonder about is, who’s number are they using. If ID thieves can cause havoc in your life with your SS# what kind of trouble can they cause you with stealing your Dr. Lic. #. No one ever talks about that.

There are people in the mortuary business who sell the information of the newly deceased. They are the ones responsible for reporting the death to the state.

They type up an official death certificate for the family so that they can apply for insurance, close bank accounts, transfer property, etc.

Then they sell the information. The state has no record of the real person’s death because the death was never reported.

This especially happens when children die because they have not history.

Also, if a loved one dies you should always file their last income tax. There is a special form. You will not be responsible for any taxes owed and it will be in the computers that the person is deceased and a flag will come up if anyone attempts to use the social security number or drivers license number.

Good piece of information in regard to filing the decedent’s last income tax. Thank you, I didn’t know that.

  • Phiilip

What pray tell is a “fake” license? A license is either counterfeit, photo-substituted or presented by an imposter. Were these otherwise legitimate California Drivers licenses obtained by fraudulent means?

  • Ron

Another example of the CORRUPT current and FORMER government employees, that cause millions of dollars in FRAUD and WASTE.

  • Joe Shmo

At the end of the article is the stupidest thing that I have ever read! To say the new drivers license will only allow better drivers is ridiculous! The driver/ID act is only to control people, and increase our costs, and ensure the government can find us when they want to!
