Evacuations Lifted In Perris Brush Fire

PERRIS (CBS/AP) — Crews battling a wildfire in Perris have lifted the evacuation of approximately 50 homes.

The blaze had been moving towards homes Monday evening and evacuations were ordered in the neighborhood of Nuevo Road and Sunset Avenue, west of Webster Avenue, according to Cherie Patterson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Officials said the fire has scorched 125 acres. It has been 60 percent contained as of Monday night.

The fire was sparked by welding activity in the unincorporated Good Hope community and spread across an ecological preserve.

At one point, the blaze threatened an education facility belonging to the University of California, Riverside, before moving toward homes.

Another major wildfire that broke out Monday in the San Bernardino National Forest has burned 350 acres, destroyed a home, two cargo containers and three small structures on a ranch. The U.S. Forest Service says one firefighter suffered a knee injury while battling the blaze, which is 40 percent contained.
