ARLETA (CBS) — A truck carrying asphalt has overturned on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Arleta area, officials reported.

A large amount of asphalt spilled onto the 5 Freeway near the interchange with the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway at 5:11 p.m. Monday.

The driver managed to get out on his own but suffered a head injury, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Matt Spence said.

All southbound lanes have been shut down and rush-hour traffic was backed up for miles.
