Man Wounded In Deputy-Involved Shooting In East LA

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man has been hospitalized after being shot in a confrontation with a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in East Los Angeles.

The shooting, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, took place in the 1400 block of South Downey Road, said Deputy Aura Lidman of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

According to authorities, deputies came across two men walking, one of which was holding a pistol.

"The deputies ordered the suspects to show their hands when a deputy involved shooting occurred," Lidman said. "The deputies fired a round at the suspects, striking the suspect who was holding a handgun in his hands. The deputies fired a second time and struck the suspect again," she said.

The wounded man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Lidman said. The other man was arrested, she said. Deputies have withheld the identities of both.
