Laguna Woods Poodle Becomes Latest Victim In OC Coyote Attacks

MISSION VIEJO (CBS) — Residents in Orange County continue to be plagued by pet-snatching coyotes despite a recent public awareness campaign about the threat.

KNX 1070’s Mike Landa reports the latest victim is a small parti poodle named Mocha.

Andrea Peck said her mother was letting the beloved pooch out of the front gate of their home when a coyote suddenly appeared.

Peck said after a brief struggle, the coyote and Mocha were both gone.

“The leash came off of his neck and my mother fell backwards,” she said. “Fortunately there was a cardboard box in her patio, and her head fell on the box which saved her life.”

Peck added that her mother — who is on blood-thinning medication — would likely not have otherwise survived the fall.

The attack comes as neighboring residents in Anaheim recently hired a trapper to catch the coyotes that have recently been seen in the area.

Residents in Laguna Woods, meanwhile, are calling on security to be more proactive in warning seniors when coyotes are seen and how to react when confronted with the wild animals.

go coyotes! oh wait…we aren’t talking a ball game here are we?….

it’s sad…but what do you expect from wild animals? they hunt to live….feel bad though for the owners…i know i’d be devistated if my dog were killed. OF course I own a pit bull and I’m sure she could give one of the coyotes a run for thier money.

This is what happens when you build your house 300 feet from where they have been living for the last 2000 – 200,000 years…If they don’t eat your dog they will surely eat you before allowing them selves to die of starvation.

And another thing….Andrea Peck ?….Knock it off with ALL the DRAMA !

This non-sense of a cardboard box saving your mothers life is rubbish and you know it.

Where is the compassion for this woman who just lost her sweet dog. Does Orange County have any compassionate people living here? Wow! I am really dissappointed in the cold attitude.

so very sorry for your loss. RIP Mocha. She looked like a sweet companion.
