Juvenile On Probation, 35-Year-Old Man Busted In Cockfighting Operation

LITTLEROCK (CBS) — A 35-year-old man and a juvenile on probation were arrested Friday on suspicion of illegal cockfighting in the Littlerock area, a sheriff's deputy said.

Deputies responded to the 10200 block of East Avenue R-2 regarding reports of a burglary just before 1 p.m., said Deputy Robbie Royster of the Palmdale sheriff's station.

"The informant on the call indicated she saw several individuals loading items into their truck from the residence on the property," Royster said in a statement.

When the deputies arrived, two of the four people in the back of the location fled, Royster said.

The people who fled were quickly rounded up.

Deputies determined the people were helping suspect Antonio Medrano move out of the home.

"Deputies also determined that Medrano...and the juvenile fled the location because of evidence of illegal cockfighting activity and a loaded firearm on the property," Royster said.

Officials found about 40 roosters, blades and boots at the home.

"These blades are traditionally strapped to the feet of the roosters prior to a cockfight, increasing the damage done to the birds during the match," Royster said.

Medrano was taken to Palmdale sheriff's station and booked for being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition. The juvenile was detained for possession of a firearm and violation of his probation.

Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control was called to handle the roosters.
