Pretiral Hearing Held For Officer In Fake Shooting
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A pretrial hearing took place Friday for Jeff Stenroos, the school police officer accused of lying about being shot by a burglary suspect in Woodland Hills.
Stenroos, 30, faces four felony counts, including filing a false police report.
He's accused of faking his own shooting while on duty outside El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills this past January.
The school was placed on lockdown while more than 500 officers converged on the area to find the gunman. Prosecutors say the manhunt cost the city and the Los Angeles Unified School District $400, 000.
Stenroos is on paid administrative leave from the district and is free on $30,000 bail. He faces up to five years in prison.
Stenroos will return to court on Aug. 10.
