Plastic Bag Ban Goes Into Effect In Long Beach
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Supermarkets and major retailers will no longer provide customers with plastic bags due to a ban that went into effect in Long Beach Monday morning.
Shoppers are now required to bring their own reusable bags, or pay 10 cents each for paper ones.

The city council enacted the ban to protect the environment, but is also hoping to save money on trash cleanup.
Long Beach spends $2 million on waste removal every year and officials are looking to limit plastic debris in waterways, storm drains and landfills.
While 66 major stores are no longer offering plastic bags, 2,000 smaller stores won't be required to follow the ban until next year.
