Unruly Crowd Vandalizes Police Cars At Hollywood Movie Premiere

HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Police were unable to control an unruly crowd of roughly 2,000 people in Hollywood Wednesday night, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Karen Rayner said.

The crowd gathered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre for the premiere of a documentary about the Electric Daisy Carnival, a rave that is now banned at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum after a 15-year-old girl died from a drug overdose last summer. A party hosted by DJ Kaskade was scheduled to follow the film, Rayner said.

People refused to disperse and some began throwing bottles at officers. Two people were arrested for felony vandalism after three patrol cars were damaged.

Officials temporarily closed Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange Avenue.

Insomniac Inc., the organizers of the movie screening, issued a statement saying they were “disappointed that a small group of people would try to mar a private documentary screening,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Modern hippies. Peace, love and vandalism.

I think whoever promoted or started this will get a huge bill from the city to pay for the police, fire and ambulance responses.

Thanks for the solid insight Jack. Unfortunate, this seems somehow staged. Where did these few unruly crazy loons go? Any arrested? If true it stinks.

The premier was spoiled. Who would want that? It just doesn’t add up somehow.

Gee, I don’t even have my tin foil ht on..

Bottom line, the DJ who decided to have a block party without permits should not be surprised that it got out of hand and tweeting after the start of the chaos was to little to late. We as tax payers should not pay for the damage done to the police cars, that check should be written by the DJ who had no consideration of the community, businesses or tourists. Kudos to the police department for doing such a great job.

robin – i bet by the time the “dust settles” in this mess that they will quickly find out that is was a bunch of kids on line that called 2 friends -that called 2 friends- n so on n so on until it became something that our city doesnt want to deal with – thats why edc has been banned from here – its not the Dj’s – its the kids and the parents that raised them , or didnt as it may seem…..

again with the drugs, no one was drugged out, most were kids under 18, and everyone simply wanted to see Kaskade… the fact that there were no FIRES! should be a very clear indicator that this post is being exagerrated by Kcal/CBS to get viewers here, no one else is reporting fires and drugged out zombies thank you . i was there, it was civil, people were simply excited (kids), until LAPD starting shooting and using force, which caused the neg reaction. McCarthur Park all over again? Minors and Bean bags… good one LAPD… the crowds were also long gone at 9p but the helicopter and 300 officers were still haning out in clusters , chatting, texting. either way we walked down the blvd before this madness happened. so people relax.

Hmmmm how odd, NOT. The rave crowds have got to go, nothing but trouble and low life’s.

Many years ago there was a march by janitors scheduled in Century City. The group had obtained all necessary permits and gathered at the start of their planned route to begin on time. The LAPD was also there and assembled on the boulevard to block the marchers. An LAPD Lt. announced that he was declaring the marchers an unlawful assembly. The police then rushed the marchers and attacked them. Billy clubs were used to beat people. Bones were broken. The march had not even begun. People were left in complete shock – physicaly and mentaly traumatized.

Does anyone know what ever happened to the lawsuit filed by those who were injured?
