Villaraigosa, Mayors Call On White House, Congress To Stop US Default
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is among 50 mayors from around the nation meeting in Los Angeles to urge lawmakers in Washington to reach a deal that would prevent a first-ever U.S. default on its debt.
KNX 1070’s Jon Baird reports the summit will also feature one White House veteran whose career spans Democratic two administrations.
Attendees at the U.S. Conference of Mayors Summer Leadership Meeting at the JW Marriott hotel include John Podesta, the former White House of Chief of staff in the Clinton Administration.
Podesta — tapped by President Barack Obama to spearhead his White House transition team — now serves as CEO for the Center for American progress, a liberal think tank in Washington.
The conference will include a one-hour round-table session on the debt issue called “Deficit, Debt Ceiling and Jobs: Putting the Pieces Together”.
