LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Janice Hahn was sworn in Tuesday as the newest congresswoman in Washington.
The former Los Angeles City Councilwoman defeated Republican Craig Huey in a bitter special election last week.
Hahn will represent the 36th Congressional District, which runs from Venice through the beach communities south of LAX.
She replaces Democrat Jane Harman, who resigned for a private job earlier this year.
The city council election to replace Hahn is likely to be held in November.
Hahn’s move to Washington marks the first time in 64 years that a member of the Hahn family is not in Los Angeles city or county government.
