(CBS) — Former Dodger Wilson Betemit is the latest name being tied to the Angels as the July 31st Major League Baseball trading deadline looms large.
The Angels have been searching for help at the hot corner, looking for a starter that would replace the platoon between Alberto Callaspo and Maicer Izturis.
Betemit has just 3 homers in 203 at-bats this season, but he does have some power, he slugged 10 homers in less than a half-season back in ’07 with the Dodgers.
The Angels are also pursuing Aramis Ramirez of the Chicago Cubs. Ramirez is hitting .300 with 16 homers for the struggling Cubs.
Ramirez has been adamant about finishing his career with Chicago and his agent told Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal that his client will block any trade.
