LOS ANGELES (CBS) — There will be no more new whale tails on the roads of California.

The state will soon stop issuing license plates that feature artist Wyland’s dreamy design. Instead, they will be replaced by new ones that debut next month.

The change comes after the state denied Wyland’s request to have 20 percent of profits from his work benefit his environmental foundation.

  1. Karen says:

I never liked this plate anyway. The first time I saw it, I had zero clue what it was. I had to look at it up close. I laugh at the “dreamy” description. How about – what the heck is that behind the numbers?
