Helicopter Tours Offer Bubbly Alternative To ‘Carmageddon’

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Want to sip a glass of champagne while hovering over what many expect to be a traffic nightmare?

Adventure Helicopter Tours is offering to fly intrepid couples over the empty 405 Freeway during this weekend’s closure  between the 10 and 101 freeways.

KNX 1070’s Charles Feldman reports for $400 per couple, folks can enjoy a bottle of champagne while soaring a few thousand feet over the Sepulveda Pass.

“I thought it was crazy in the beginning, and then I’m like, ‘You know what, this might be an interesting tour to sell’,” said VP of marketing Vaughn Lusparyan.

The tour — which lasts about 45 minutes — will also include other famous sites around the Southland, including Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood sign and other landmarks.

You can catch the choppers at Whiteman Airport in L.A. or Fullerton in Orange County.

Just make sure you stay off the freeways on your way to the tarmac.
