Jockey Valenzuela Off Mounts After Injury

INGLEWOOD (AP) — Jockey Patrick Valenzuela took off his mounts at Hollywood Park on Saturday after being hurt when his horse unseated him a night earlier.

His agent, Tom Knust, says Valenzuela is 80 percent likely to return to riding on Sunday, when he has three mounts.

Valenzuela was aboard Sunburn in Friday night's fourth race, but she stumbled badly shortly after the start and unseated him. He was taken to a nearby hospital after complaining of hip, leg and left shoulder pain, but X-rays were negative and he was later released.

Valenzuela, who was set to ride in four races Saturday, has 21 wins at the spring-summer meet. Last Saturday, he earned his first Grade 1 stakes victory at the track in seven years.
