Will Dodgers Fans Give Hometown Hero Ethier Second All-Star Bid?

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — It may be a dark time for the Los Angeles Dodgers front office, but out on the field one of the team's most talented players is still shining — and hoping fans will see the light.

Outfielder Andre Ethier is one of five players in the National League that are eligible for special fan voting at MLB.com to land them a roster spot in the 2011 All-Star Game.

The voting, which ends Thursday at 1:00 PM, is the target of an eleventh-hour push to give Ethier recognition for his efforts both on and off the field.

Besides winning the NL Silver Slugger award in 2009 and earning his first All-Star bid in 2010, Ethier has spent the last five years working with the Union Rescue Mission, which helps the homeless with job training, transitional housing and other assistance to some of L.A.'s neediest families.

Ethier is also involved with promoting Think Cure/USC Medical, the Dodgers charitable focus aimed at curing cancer.
