GOP Presidential Candidate Huntsman Holding Fundraisers In LA, Newport Beach

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman will hold fundraisers for his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in downtown Los Angeles and Newport Beach on Monday in his second trip to the region in just more than a month.

Tickets for a half-hour "VIP reception" at The Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles are $2,500 per person. The price for a ticket for an hour-long lunch that follows is $1,000.

Huntsman will hold an hour-long "VIP reception" and an 90-minute dinner at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach later Monday. A ticket for the VIP reception costs $2,500 and a ticket for the dinner $1,000.

The fundraisers come three days before the end of the quarterly reporting period. Candidates are required to file fundraising reports for the second three months of the year with the Federal Election Commission by July 15. Those reports can be an early indication of a candidate's viability.

Huntsman is among several presidential candidates aggressively fundraising as the quarter nears its end. He also has fundraisers scheduled for Sunday in La Jolla.

Huntsman held private fundraising meetings in Los Angeles and Orange Counties May 25-26.

Huntsman declared his candidacy Tuesday at a park in Jersey City, N.J. facing the Statue of Liberty, saying "we must make broad and bold changes to our tax code and regulatory policies, seize the lost opportunity of energy independence and re-establish what it means to be a teacher in society."
