Kings Send Ryan Smyth Back Home To Edmonton

CBSSports.com -A.J. Perez --

(CBS) -- Ryan Smyth is finally headed back to Edmonton Oilers.

The Los Angeles Kings, who had attempted to trade the veteran forward for days, completed the deal Sunday. Smyth heads to Oilers in exchange for forward Colin Fraser and a seventh-round pick in next year's draft.

Smyth had asked out of L.A. and the Kings GM Dean Lombardi had a deal in place to ship the 35-year-old to the Oilers in exchange for center Gilbert Brule. But Brule, who has had concussion issues, wasn't medically cleared to play and the league likely would have barred the transaction.

The Calagary Flames were also an option before they signed Alex Tanguay to an extension that ate up much of thier room under the salary cap.
