Polo, Charity Work And Celebrities On Itinerary For William And Catherine's July Visit


LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will combine charity work while strengthening the bond between the America and the United Kingdom during their three-day visit to Los Angeles in July.

The couple's itinerary was officially released Wednesday. William and Catherine are scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles on Friday, July 8 following a trip to Canada.

Upon arrival, the Duke and Duchess will go directly to an event supporting UK Trade and Investment. Later in the evening, the couple will attend a reception at the Consul-General's Residence in Los Angeles. The event will include several California politicians, according to private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.

On Saturday, William will play in a charity polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club. Catherine is scheduled to present the trophy to the winning team. (For ticket information, click here)

On Saturday evening, William and Catherine will attend a black tie event in support of the British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) at the Belasco Theatre in downtown. The Duke is Academy President and will speak at the event titled, "BAFTA Brits to Watch."

One the final day of their tour, the Duke and Duchess will go to a private event in support of Tusk USA, which supports conservation in Africa.

The couple plans to meet with inner-city- youths in Los Angeles Sunday.

"The couple is really looking forward to meeting the children participating in art programmes - mainly painting and pottery. The couple will then join an audience of children and supporters and watch a performance from the dance and drama classes," Lowther-Pinkerton said.

In the final leg of their visit Sunday, the couple will meet with military families at Sony Pictures Studios. There, they will assemble care packages to be sent to troops in Afghanistan.

The trip to Los Angeles will be Catherine Middleton's first visit to the United States. It is the couple's first overseas trip since they were married in April.
