Vallejo Special Ed Teacher Accused Of Raping, Impregnating Developmentally Disabled Student

VALLEJO (AP) — A special education teacher at a Vallejo elementary school remains in jail on suspicion of raping a developmentally disabled student on campus.

KXTV reports that 56-year-old Jerry Johnson appeared in Solano County Court on Tuesday to be arraigned on one count of rape of the developmentally disabled. The charge comes with an enhancement of great bodily injury because the alleged 18-year-old victim is reportedly pregnant.

Police say Johnson, a teacher at Loma Vista Elementary School, raped the woman on campus during school hours at the end of February. He was arrested Monday at his Elk Grove home.

Lt. Eric Mortenson says the woman, who has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old, was a student aide assisting Johnson with other developmentally disabled students.

Johnson's arraignment was continued until a public defender could be assigned to him. He is being held on $750,000 bail.
