Over 400K To Attend Sunday’s LA Pride Parade

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — More than 400,000 people are expected to line Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood Sunday for the 41st annual L.A. Pride parade, celebrating the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, according to organizers.

Three-time national figure skating champion Johnny Weir will serve as the grand marshal during the event, which kicks off at 11 a.m. on Crescent Heights Boulevard. It will continue west along Santa Monica Boulevard to San Vicente Boulevard.

The festivities will prompt the closure of Santa Monica Boulevard from Fairfax Avenue to Doheny Drive; Crescent Heights Boulevard from Romaine Street to Fountain Avenue, Norton Avenue from Laurel Avenue to Havenhurst Drive; and all other streets one block north and one block south of Santa Monica Boulevard from Fairfax Avenue to La Peer Drive from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Meantime, the 41st annual three-day L.A. Pride Festival is expected to continue Saturday with performances by Grammy winner Mya, CeCe Peniston, Prince Poppycock, Matt Morris and Upright Cabaret.

Scheduled performers during Sunday’s festival include Estelle, Sam Sparro, Kat Graham, Kaya Jones, Justin Utley, TranzKontinental and comedian Margaret Cho.
