Rescued Beagles Getting A New Leash On Life

VALLEY VILLAGE (CBS)— A group of beagles locked up in a laboratory since birth have been rescued by a Los Angeles animal rescue group and placed in loving homes.

The Beagle Freedom Project were tipped off that nine beagles were being used for testing cosmetic, household and pharmaceuitical products. The dogs had been bred for lab research and spent years in cages.

Rescuers contacted the lab, who said they were reportedly done with their testing and released the animals to Freedom Project.

“They don’t even have a name, just a tattoo in their ears,” said Shannon Keith, who runs the Beagle Freedom Project. “They had never even been on a walk.”

You would expect the dogs to give a whimper or a bark of joy at their first contact with grass but the beagles were de-barked so they wouldn’t disturb researchers at the lab. Instead, the dogs cower.

Today, the beagles are in loving homes, where they have names instead of tattoos.

The Freedom Project just rescued another batch of beagles from a lab in Northern California.

It’s a sad story that Keith wishes she didn’t have to tell ever again.

Cant believe we are still testing on pet friendly animals when we have the real animals locked up in death row and prison….Test your S**t on them!

Let’s test on ILLEGAL ALIENS and other criminals such as the convicts locked up now.

I felt bad for the albino mice I used for needless experiments in college. Does God give us dominion over other animals for such abuse?

I have an idea – free the suffering & dying animals used for unnecessary “research”, close ALL breeding facilities and put the dam’ breeders out of business for good, THEN use the “researchers” and “medical teams” (who by torturing animals have forfeited any right to be considered as human beings, let alone medics) for “experimentation” and “research”. Then after maybe a few years, put them out of their misery. Oh, and let’s make sure we cut their vocal cords first, as they did the beagles, so we don’t have to listen to their screams of pain.

What kind of a person can look into the fearful eyes of those animals every day while injecting silly cosmetic products under their eyelids and into their veins to test for reactions to foreign substances–all done to make some human look “attractive?”

If all companies were legally restricted to only test on human volunteers I betcha there would be far fewer tests, more caution, more safeguards.

I remember sitting in church as a small child asking my mother why the ladies sitting in front of us were wearing cheetah coats and mink stoles in such a holy place. And I still don’t get it, today–why is obvious cruelty overlooked by so many, many people?

God bless the rescuers and those who speak-out for those who can’t speak.

So sad. I’m glad these dogs are in homes now but they will have issues for a long time to come as they have never been truly socialized. I hope they get some behavorial training.

SHAME ON THOSE PEOPLE AT THE LAB !!! Cant you see how sad they are ?
Did they ever look them in the eye and see how upset and stressed they were?
And de bark them? BEAGLES ARE SUPPOSE TO BARK !!!!! News Flash !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beagles are smart, It was a shame they were treated that way…. so sad !!

Thanks for the awesome work you do, I have a beagle and he is almost a yr old so he still gets into a little trouble. When he gets scolded he has those sad eyes and finds a place to lay down but few min later hes back with his head on my legs wanted to be loved. That explains why they are so forgiving all they want is someone to love them and be close to someone.
