DA Won't Charge Adult Kids In Trash Can Body Case
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors will not file criminal charges against the two adult children of a Southern California woman accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend to death and dismembering his body.
San Bernardino County Deputy District Attorney Erica Gallegos declined to say why. Her decision means 25-year-old Daniel Ortiz and 26-year-old Chanel Alicia Ortiz, both of Riverside, will be released from jail.
Their mother, 51-year-old Carmen Montenegro, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 63-year-old Samuel Wiggins Jr.
She was arrested after neighbors reported a woman pushing a trash can full of Wiggins' body parts down an Ontario street.
Police arrested Montenegro's children late Wednesday on suspicion of helping their mother dispose of the remains.
