RIVERSIDE (AP) — A man charged with murdering a Riverside police officer on a foot chase after being pulled over for a traffic stop has pleaded not guilty.
Attorneys say Earl Ellis Green entered the plea in Superior Court on Friday.
Green is charged with one count of murder and two special circumstances. Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty if he is convicted.
Green is charged with shooting to death 27-year-old police officer and Army veteran Ryan Bonaminio in November. Authorities say Bonaminio was shot during a foot pursuit after he pulled over a suspected hit-and-run driver.
Green’s attorney O.G. Magno says he may seek a change of venue out of concern his client will not get a fair trial in Riverside.
Green’s next hearing is July 8.
