LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070) — Thousands of volunteers are sprucing up hundreds of places this weekend as part of the annual “Big Sunday” event.
KNX 1070’s Ed Mertz spoke with two volunteers at Selma Avenue Elementary School who were working to make their school look nicer.
“It helps a lot with the school, and it makes it more beautiful,” Samantha, a sixth grader, said.
She along with her classmate, Michael, are among the volunteers giving of their time to clean, fix, or carry out any number of projects around Southern California. And like many of the volunteers, Michael says ‘Big Sunday’ is rewarding.
“Well, it’s making me feel like I’m doing my part in helping the school.”
About 500 different volunteering events are taking place across Southern California on “Big Sunday” with an estimated 50,000 people expected to participate.
