Selig Appointed Dodgers Consultant Relived Of Duties For Conflict Of Interest

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A former baseball executive appointed by Commissioner Bud Selig to help monitor the troubled Los Angeles Dodgers was relieved of his duties after it was discovered he was a paid consultant last year to ex-team CEO Jamie McCourt.

An attorney for Dodgers owner Frank McCourt wrote in a letter Tuesday that Richard Freeman worked for Jamie McCourt in early January 2010.  Selig announced Monday that Freeman would assist former Texas Rangers president Tom Schieffer in overseeing the Dodgers' daily operations.

However, Freeman's job was cut short hours later after he notified Major League Baseball about a potential conflict.

Selig appointed Schieffer last month after questions arose about the team's finances.
