Drug Suspect Leads Authorities On Pursuit Along 5 Freeway

CASTAIC (CBS) — What started as a simple attempt to stop a vechile resulted in a high speed chase with the driver tossing suspected bags of drugs out of his car  on the northbound 5 Freeway Tuesday.

The pursuit began around 10:45 a.m. when the driver failed to yield to California Highway Patrol officers in Newhall.

Authorities say the suspect threw several bags of a substance believed to be methamphetamine from the car during the chase .

The pursuit ended just before noon on the 5 Freeway, south of Bakersfield, when the driver pulled over and gave himself up.

The northbound 5 Freeway was closed near Castaic as CHP officers searched for additional evidence.
