Singer Rick Springfield Arrested For Alleged DUI

MALIBU (CBS) — Singer Rick Springfield, best known for his 1981 hit "Jessie's Girl," was arrested in Malibu for allegedly driving drunk, authorities said.

Springfield, 61, was arrested about 8 p.m. Sunday and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, according to the Sheriff's Department. He was released about 2:10 a.m. on "a signed promise to appear in Malibu Court on July 5."

"Springfield came to the attention of a patrol deputy from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station as he accelerated rapidly from Heathercliff Road in his 1963 Corvette, while driving on Pacific Coast Highway," according to the Sheriff's Department. The deputy pulled him over near Trancas Canyon Road.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Springfield was given field sobriety tests, and an analysis of his breath indicated a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent, higher than the state limit of 0.08 percent.

In addition to his fame as a singer, Springfield also portrayed Dr. Noah Drake on the ABC soap opera "General Hospital."
