Sheriff's Deputy Is Recovering After Being Accidentally Shot In The Head By Colleague

REDDING (AP) — A Shasta County Sheriff's deputy is recovering after his colleague inadvertently shot him in the head while the pair tried to arrest a fleeing woman.

Authorities say Deputy Nolan Guiducci is in fair condition at a local hospital after Friday's shooting. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Guiducci and another deputy responded to a call from National Park Service rangers, who sought help finding a couple wanted on multiple felony warrants in Whiskeytown National Recreational Area.

The deputy's firearm discharged and struck Guiducci as they tried to apprehend 46-year-old Elizabeth Hope Riley in the woods.

The deputy's name has not been released. Riley was arrested on a warrant for marijuana sales and transport. Authorities say 48-year-old Hank Leon Riley, the other suspect, eluded capture.
