HACIENDA HEIGHTS (AP) —Authorities say a marijuana growing business was found inside a Hacienda Heights home when firefighters were called to put out a blaze.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Ernie Barbosa says more than 200 plants were found inside the home after Wednesday’s 6:30 p.m. fire.
No one was home when the fire was reported, so investigators are still trying to determine who is responsible for the plants.
Barbosa told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune the home’s electrical system had bypassed the electric meter so the power was being stolen.
The fire caused about $10,000 damage.
Officials say the fire was apparently sparked by electrical equipment and lights used to grow the plants. Hacienda Heights is located about 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
