Man Dead, Woman Wounded In Hail Of Bullets Near LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBS) —  A man was fatally shot and a woman was wounded in a hail of bullets as they sat in a parked Cadillac on the outskirts of the Los Angeles International Airport Saturday, according to police.

The shooting attack occurred about 12:30 p.m at 96th Street and Airport Boulevard, near the Renaissance Airport Hotel, said a police sergeant at the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific station.

The sergeant said a suspect, about 20 years old and wearing a black bandana, walked up to the couple, seated in a white Cadillac, and fired several shots at them.

The man was hit it in the head and shoulder. Paramedics rushed him to UCLA Medical where he was pronounced dead about 1:30 p.m., he said. Some eyewitnesses said they heard as many as 30 shots fired, but police could not confirm that number.

The condition of the woman and the extent of her injuries were not immediately known.

A KNX reporter said a late-model Cadillac was sitting in the street, its door open and a half-dozen shell casings near it, 90 minutes after the shooting.
