Engine Problem Prompts 'V Australia' Pilot To Abort Takeoff At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A V Australia flight scheduled to depart Los Angeles International Airport for Sydney was cancelled Wednesday night after the pilot aborted takeoff.

Flight VA02 was in the early stages of its takeoff when, as a precautionary measure, the pilot chose to return to the terminal due to an issue with the performance of the left hand engine, a spokesperson for the airline told CBS2.

"Safety is always our highest priority," the airline said in a statement. "Our flight crew are highly trained and have rehearsed procedures in place to address such instances."

The aircraft, which was scheduled to depart at 10:20 p.m., had 305 passengers onboard.

Guests were provided hotel accommodations near the airport while engineers examined the aircraft.

No injuries were reported.
