LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man suspected of stealing a white GMC Yukon led the California Highway Patrol on an hour-long pursuit from East Los Angeles to Mission Viejo Thursday morning.

The suspect was shot in the hand at 1:30 a.m. during the chase at Washington Boulevard and Dennis Avenue in Commerce, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

The man reportedly stopped at that location, but attempted to run the vehicle into officers when they approached him, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting, the CHP reported. No officers were hurt.

The wounded motorist kept driving until he came near the Oso Parkway exit of Interstate 5 in Mission Viejo, Kimball said.

The CHP spiked his tires, disabling the vehicle. The suspect then surrendered and was arrested.

He was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. A female passenger was also arrested, but did not suffer any injuries.

Thank goodness the officers weren’t hurt. They do an often thankless job which can be very dangerous.

After they catch drivers from high speed chases, they should let the news helicopter get a good look at the police/deputies tapping them in the back of the head three times. No spending money on jail/prison, court costs. Just 9 mil ammo. The chases would come to a skidding halt.

With gas prices @ 4.25 a gal, why would anyone want to steal an suv? The police need for a spike strip was useless all they needed to do is follow the the vehicle and wait for the light to come on and they had him. Iddiot

Ron, they have to pass by the OC if they’re running back to Mexico.

That’s right. Well DON’T take any OFF ramps in the O.C.
