The School That Can Raise Your Kid Better Than You Can

Your school can take better care of your kids than you can. It knows better than you, regarding what your child should eat. At least, in Chicago, where  one public grade school --possibly more, it's not clear-- has banned home-made lunches from the cafeteria. It's school food, or go hungry.

The principal at the "Little Village Academy"tells the Chicago Tribune "Nutrition wise, it is better for the children to eat at the school." The district backs her up. She says she's seen too many cokes instead of milk, too many chips.

Here's an idea: if parents are so stupid, how about sending home a flyer with basic nutrition info., in short words us morons can understand, then letting us raise our kids?

Conspiracy theorists can wonder what secret ingredient the school's putting in its cafeteria.  It must not be 'flavor." the Tribune found a lot of lunches picked-over, then tossed out. The kids say they taste bad. Of course, the school and the contractor get extra money for each meal that sells, but I'm sure that's a co-inky-dink.

There are exceptions: if your child has a medical issue. Being sick of cafeteria food does not count, though. Meanwhile, if a parent wants to make a healthier choice than what the cafeteria is serving -- packing  gluten-free or low-carb, for example -- you're outta luck.   Get back in line and drink the Kool Aid  milk that the school is providing.
