La Quinta High Teacher Pleads Not Guilty To Sex With Student, 17

INDIO (CBS) — A La Quinta High School teacher has pleaded not guilty Wednesday to having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

David Armenta, 30, of Indio faces felony charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and oral copulation with a minor. Armenta, who was arrested on Feb. 7, was put on administrative leave when school administrators learned of the investigation.

A spokesman says Indio police were notified Feb. 4 that sexual activity between Armenta and the student occurred in that city in January. An investigation led to Armenta’s arrest at his home in the 47400 block of Bahama Court, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

Charges were filed in the case last Friday, according to court records.

Armenta is free on bail and is scheduled back in court on April 15 for a felony settlement conference.
