Hyundai Botches Severance Letters To Irvine Workers

IRVINE (AP) — Fifty Hyundai workers who lost their jobs in Irvine have learned they would only receive half of the severance pay they were told they'd get in letters sent out last week.

The Orange County Register reports Friday that the finance workers received a follow-up notice on Monday correcting the error.

Hyundai spokesman Chris Hosford said the letters correctly stated the amount of pay but mistakenly doubled the number of weeks that workers would receive it.

Hosford said everyone in the human resource department feels badly about what happened.

Hyundai laid off the workers because it is transferring jobs to Dallas and Austell, Ga., to focus on the South and Southwest.
