Laptop Stolen From Health Center Held 667 Patient Records
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County officials say a laptop stolen from a health center contained the medical records of 667 people and they've warned those patients of a privacy breach.
The Department of Health Services says the computer was stolen from the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey. The theft was noticed on Feb. 23.
The laptop held names, dates, illness histories and other unencrypted data on patients but did not contain their Social Security numbers or financial information.
The patients have been notified.
