STUDIO CITY (CBS/KCAL) — Famous marine artist Wyland visited the KCAL 9 studios on Monday to talk about Earth Month and several celebratory events.

Wyland is best known for his artwork across Southern California, including the “Wyland Wall” in Redondo Beach which will be restored in honor of Earth Month in April. A special event will be held this Thursday, Mar. 31,  in Redondo to celebrate the start of Earth Month.

Also at the event, , the Wyland Foundation, AES, Toyota, West Basin Municipal Water District, and KCAL9/CBS2 are kicking off The Mayor’s Challenge, a contest at that brings cities across Southern California together to focus on water conservation and pollution reduction in a friendly competition. The Mayor’s Challenge encourages cities to register residents for an online water conservation pledge. From April 1 – 31, individual pledges will apply toward their city’s total water savings and pollution reductions over the following year. The city with the highest percentage of participating residents will be recognized for its efforts.
