Homeland Security Campaign Partners With STAPLES, AEG Venues

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Sports fans, concert goers and partiers alike are being told, "If You See Something, Say Something" as part of a national Homeland Security campaign.

The campaign is a public awareness initiative for stadiums, clubs, theatres, arenas and convention centers nationwide to help insure the safety and security of the American public.

The campaign announced its partnership Monday with AEG, owner of the STAPLE Center. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano joined AEG President and CEO Timothy J. Leiweke at the STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles Monday to kick off the campaign.

"If You See Something, Say Something" was initially implemented by the New Your City Metropolitan Transportation Authority. It's partnership with AEG hopes to encourage the public to identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats at public venues.

Officials with AEG say the campaign partnership will be launched at select AEG owned or affiliated properties including The Home Depot Center, L.A. Live, STAPLES Center, Nokia Theatre and El Rey Theatre among others across the U.S. DHS says additional venues will be added later.

Partnerships with the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign have recently been launched by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, the NBA and the NFL, as well as in several states including Colorado, Minnesota and New Jersey, more than 9,000 federal buildings nationwide, Walmart, Mall of America, the American Hotel & Lodging Association, Amtrak, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the general aviation industry, and state and local fusion centers across the country.
