Former Tax Official Pleads Guilty To Theft, Drug Possession

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — A former San Bernardino County tax official has pleaded guilty to all 15 charges against him, including grand theft and drug possession, but has cut a plea deal that would result in a maximum of five years in prison.

Ex-assessor Bill Postmus entered his pleas on Monday. He agreed to testify in the two cases he has been charged in, and will only be sentenced on three of the counts in exchange for his truthful testimony.

He would be sentenced for two counts of conspiracy and one count of conflict of interest, and the remaining charges would be dismissed.

In one case, prosecutors accused Postmus of using public money to take trips and pay for employees who did little public work.
