Charges Filed Against Sex Offender In Attempted Green Line Kidnapping
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Criminal charges have been filed against a registered sex offender who's accused of trying to kidnap a 25-year-old woman at a Metro station in southeast Los Angeles last week.
James Alfred Burnett, 46, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Compton Superior Court on one felony count each of kidnapping, false imprisonment and criminal threats.
Police say Burnett tried to kidnap and threatened to kill the woman at the Avalon Green Line station last Thursday when nearly a dozen fellow passengers came to her aid and attacked him. The entire attempted abduction and attack was caught on tape. The victim was uninjured and Burnett was later arrested.
Burnett was previously convicted with rape, kidnapping and robbery. He remains in jail in lieu of a $1.2 million bail.
