Parole Jumper, Convicted Rapist Captured In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBS)  — David Ray McReynolds, a convicted rapist who allegedly jumped parole and tried to elude Riverside police, was arrested Thursday.

McReynolds, 53, was taken into custody without incident in the area of William and Mountain View streets, according to Riverside police Officer Mike Dillon.

An anonymous tip led officers to check the location, Dillon said. McReynolds apparently had been camped out along the Santa Ana River bottom.

Last week, authorities characterized the parolee as "high-risk" and asked the public to be on the lookout for him.

The ex-convict was convicted of rape in the 1980s. He has since been convicted twice for failing to register as a sex offender. California Penal Code Section 290 requires anyone in California convicted of a sex crime to keep law enforcement officials informed on their whereabouts.

In 1996, McReynolds was sentenced to four years in state prison. He was sentenced to a two-year term in February 2009.
