FULLERTON (AP) — If you think you’ve seen the compact, muscular man training young divers at a Fullerton pool somewhere before you have.

It’s Greg Louganis, the greatest Olympic diver who ever lived.

The only man to win gold medals in springboard and platform diving in back-to-back Olympic competitions has returned to the sport he dominated in the 1970s and `80s; as a coach.

He’s working with a small Southern California program called SoCal Divers and as a mentor for Team USA diving, helping train future Olympians.

Louganis all but disappeared from the sport after winning gold in the 1988 Olympics. He tells The Associated Press he stayed away until now because until only recently he never felt welcome.
