Olympic Legend Greg Louganis Dives Into Coaching

FULLERTON (AP) — If you think you’ve seen the compact, muscular man training young divers at a Fullerton pool somewhere before you have.

It’s Greg Louganis, the greatest Olympic diver who ever lived.

The only man to win gold medals in springboard and platform diving in back-to-back Olympic competitions has returned to the sport he dominated in the 1970s and `80s; as a coach.

He’s working with a small Southern California program called SoCal Divers and as a mentor for Team USA diving, helping train future Olympians.

Louganis all but disappeared from the sport after winning gold in the 1988 Olympics. He tells The Associated Press he stayed away until now because until only recently he never felt welcome.

had he not dived into male rectum he would not have AIDS.

  • Ed Rooney

If he coaches you while you’re wearing a Speedo, you can get AIDS, so be careful kids.

    • Lara

That comment is so out of line and shows how ignorant you really are.
Kudo’s to the kids who get to be trained and mentored by a true athelete who rocked the diving/platform world!!

      • Ed Rooney

Hey dumb broad, it was a joke. Obviously.
        Are you on your period?

  • drozone69

Yes he rocked it alright, litterally with the back ofhis head off the ever present diving board. He should have been immediatly drug tested after that initial episode of bizaar treatment of his body.

    • Jim C

Message for Ed — as a gay man, I find your words offensive. I don’t buy the “it was a joke” line – no one else should buy it. Why don’t you try a sincere apology instead? J

      • Ed Rooney and the likes are worthless

Exactly, Jim C. Ed Rooney meant every single word of what he wrote. People like him can’t handle being put on the spot when their bigotry is called into the open. As I’ve commented to Lara, try not to let his immaturity get to you.

      • Stefan (Swiss reader)

I totally agree with Jim C. Extremely offensive and hypocritical to label as a joke after spilling it. There is NOTHING to be joked about.

  • Ed Rooney and the likes are worthless

Lara, Ed Rooney is such a typical 13-year-old. Pay no mind to his immaturity. Karma tends to kick people like him in the a$$… HARD. I only wish I could be around to see it happen!

    • Stefan (Swiss reader)

Age is NEVER an excuse for disrespect!! You believe in Karma? I believe it’s a shame people still can get away with such attitude.

  • Candy

Greg is a very dear friend of mine and I am proud to know him. Those are very mean and hurtful remarks made out of ignorance. I only hope he never sees these rude comments.

    • Stefan (Swiss reader)

Thank you Candy, for standing by Gregs side. I’m outraged to see such truly hurtful comments. How twisted and rotten are these people?

  • Connie

Straight people contract AIDS too. The man is an amazing athelete and inspiration.
Can’t wait for my son to experience the dive camp!!!
Didn’t your mother tell you to be quiet if you don’t have anything nice to say.
